"Naïves Hirondelles" (R. Dubillard) - Music for theater play
Originally written in 1953 by Roland Dubillard, « Naïves Hirondelles » is a complex and dense play
about miscommunication and the fear of action. The script has been adapted by director and actor
Maria Machado to capture contemporary issues and is staged by Tangente company.
For this two hour drama, I composed a blend of music and sound design mostly based on improvisations
during rehearsal sessions. The resulting soundtrack, deliberately cinematographic, is to be performed
live — while following the onstage action — and diffused on a quadraphonic system to provide immersion
into the various layers of the soundscape. This work extends the already musical text and unifies the four
characters psyche with their environment while maintaining the audience into a sense of mystery and tangible tension.
